New City

Ok, so I haven't been the best at this blog thing! I was reading my cousin Sarah's blog (she is hilarious by the way- no pressure cuz) and was inspired to write again...and more consistently.

So alot has happened in the last two months. In searching for jobs and meeting with career services, I got an idea about mid november to transfer law schools for my last semester in order to take some classes only offered in DC and to try to go ahead and get plugged in here since I would love to stay and work in DC after graduation. The idea turned into a reality and now John Mark and I are here! The Lord really has blessed us in that so many things had to fall into place so quickly. I am finishing up school at George Washington University Law School. So far, it has been an interesting transition. At first, I felt like a total freshman- not knowing where my classes were, where the bathrooms were located or how to get onto the internet. Yet, the biggest adjustment was walking into class and not knowing a single person. In the past month, things have gotten better- I chat with the people I sit next to and have gotten up the courage to ask where the ATM is located.

As for living, we are in Ballston, a neighborhood in Arlington, VA. It's on the orange line metro and our building is only two blocks away. I take the metro to school (11 minutes to be exact) and John Mark has his car for work. My car staying in Florida with a good friend who promises to drive it to the post office every week (she likes to pretend she's old). Honestly, the adjustment to one car has not been bad at all, however, I realized the other day I have not driven in a month since it's John Mark's car and he dives it. I'm really hoping that driving isn't one of those things you forget...that it's just like riding a bike.

Well hopefully this blog will be about life in a fun new big city. John Mark and I have goal to try to be tourists at least weekly and report about it. Considering I am still absolutely mesmerized any time we drive into DC proper, there should be lots to see and write about. That's it for now. Confidentiality

So I am a talker... I know that statement surprises no one. But ever since coming to law school I have gotten weird about confidentiality. The vast majority of my life is an open book; if you want to know just ask. I have found out that is not the case with most people. I don't have any traumatic story where I reveled to someone that they were adopted (let my mom do that one to her hairdresser), but I think I've just been told so many times to keep things hush or confidential that I think I am repeat those words out of habit. Is this a good thing? Is it some subliminal professional responsibility thing where I am programed in order to be good at attorney-client confidentiality? Am I giving in to a society that is so overloaded with information that I find myself becoming a more private person?


Take this blog, I have been thinking about erasing my last name on my profile. (If you look and it's not there you know I have given in.) Well, maybe that's because this girl needs a J-O-B after graduation and supposedly firms are not huge fans of blogs that are not law related. Besides that.....I did have two stalkers in college.

About time....

So in the middle of my studying and writing a paper, of course, I will turn to any distraction possible! Why not start a blog? I have been considering it for some time and the peer pressure from my Chi Omega pledge class as well as friends reunited through Facebook has gotten the best of me.

So today is Thanksgiving Day! My family is only five hours away at the beach house in Pawleys Island, SC. Alas, I am home with my wonderful husband and the goal to write 7 pages of my ALWR (advanced legal writing and research assignment). Thankfully, my topic is interesting: why fashion does not have copyright protection. It is my way of bringing my two worlds together. 2 pages down....5 to go!
